This Knot of Thorns

Haunted by the tragedy of that morning, Jubilee can't help but question the truths etched into her heart since birth. If God is truly a loving God, where was He the day her virtue was ripped away?

After a marriage of dark secrets leaves him haunted by demons of his own, Atticus Albanus swears he will never again find himself bound to another woman.

That is, until a proposal of marriage brings the two together, leaving each to face the darkness of their pasts.

As the chains that bind them begin to intertwine, will they find freedom or will they drag the other deeper into the darkness?

โ€œPoignant and powerful! This Knot of Thorns invites you to step back into the riveting atmosphere of the first century, yet its stirring truths of guilt, shame, and grace remain timeless in their portrayal. In the darkest of moments, hopeโ€™s healing embrace can still be found. A beautiful addition to any history loverโ€™s shelf!โ€

Content Warning

Due to the nature of the plot, I do consider This Knot of Thorns to have a pg-13 rating.

This Knot of Thorns definitely will not be for everyone, I tackle a lot of heavy topics within this story including alcoholism, drug addiction (in the past), and homosexuality (this is not the main plot point, but is a secondary characters story and is portrayed as sinful)

The number one thing I want to put out there is that due to a large part of the plot surrounding a sexual assault that took place before the story starts, there are discussions surrounding sexual assault and the intimacy between a husband and wife after one has been assaulted, as well as a few vague scenes that do fade to black.

Though the content is far from graphic or gratuitous and nothing is more than simply alluded to, I do ask that you consider these facts before picking up the book as I know we all have different convictions and beliefs surrounding certain topics in the books we read!

If it helps, for references of books that I would say are similar to the relationship content, I would list books such as Redeeming Love, Divine Rivals, The Summer We Forgot. If you can handle certain scenes that are portrayed in these stories I *think* you may be able to handle the discussions and themes within This Knot of Thorns.

โ€œThis book is a beacon of light and a challenge to the believer not to let our faith grow dim, even in the midst of our worst nightmares. I promise that you can not read This Knot of Thorns and come away untouched by the Spirit of God!โ€

โ€œ Mathewson digs deep into biblical themes and shines a redemptive light on difficult topics while telling a compelling story. This book, the characters, and lessons are all ones you can root for.โ€

โ€œThis Knot of Thorns is a beautiful depiction of how light overcomes darkness, piercing even the blackest night. Itโ€™s a perfect illustration of beauty from ashes, and itโ€™s a book that will stay in my heart for a very long time.โ€
